10 tips for productivity and focus while living in a coliving space
At Château Coliving, this February is all about mindful productivity. Our themed month, Focus February, is dedicated to helping colivers concentrate on their projects, stay motivated, and hold each other accountable.
Living in a destination coliving space offers a unique blend of inspiration and challenge—balancing deep focus with community connection and, let’s be honest… a lot of tempting distractions that are much more fun than work.
Based on our experience, here are 10 practical tips to boost your productivity and stay on track while enjoying the coliving experience.
1. Define your daily / weekly / monthly Goals
We kicked off the month by each writing down our big goals and sticking them on the wall of the coworking space. Every morning, when we walk in, we’re reminded of our bigger vision and can stay on track.
At the two-week mark, we’ll check in on our goals and make adjustments if needed. There’s nothing wrong with changing your mind or refining your initial goals—as long as you know why and clearly define the new ones so they can guide your daily actions.
Start each day with clear, achievable objectives. Whether it’s completing a work milestone or making progress on a personal project, setting intentions helps maintain focus. During our hosted coworking sessions, we open the space to share our plans for the day and hold each other accountable.
2. Create a dedicated workspace
While coliving spaces offer communal areas, having a designated spot for deep work can make a huge difference. Find a quiet corner that signals to your brain, “It’s time to focus.”
In our case, that’s our beautiful coworking space in the Manor building. Taking the one-minute “commute” through the little forest helps reset the brain—switching it into work mode at the start of the day and rest mode at the end.

3. Set boundaries with fellow colivers
Communicate your work hours and productivity needs to others. A simple “deep work” sign or noise-canceling headphones can signal when you’re in the zone.
For the February group at the Château, it’s clear that everyone is here with the intention of deep work and focus. But we know that’s not always the case—whether in other coliving spaces or even at our own place in the summer. Sometimes, colivers have lighter workloads and plenty of time for fun, while others are juggling pressing deadlines.
Being upfront about your schedule and respectfully explaining that you need uninterrupted time can be a game changer. Setting boundaries helps you stay productive while maintaining a healthy dynamic with the rest of the crew.
4. Use the power of time blocking
Break your day into focused time blocks for work, breaks, and socializing. We use the Pomodoro technique: 40-minute work sessions followed by short breaks, during which we chat, help each other with tasks, and exchange useful information. It’s a great tool for managing our time and making realistic plans about what can actually be done in a 40-minute block.
Speaking of power, we’re hosting bi-weekly power hours where we all tackle one of our most hated and procrastinated tasks. We commit to it for one hour, with no phones or distractions. This way, instead of worrying about this task all week, you simply schedule it for the power hour and, until then, free up your brain space for other things you need to get done.
5. Leverage accountability partners
One of the best aspects of coliving is the built-in community. Pair up with another coliver who’s in a similar work situation to check in on progress and hold each other accountable.
While this often happens naturally, you can also do it intentionally; and even continue once you’ve left the coliving space!
This month, we’ve divided the colivers into groups of three, based on their work schedules, jobs, and situations, encouraging them to help each other and stay accountable, both in smaller settings and within the larger group.
6. Minimize digital distractions
Use website blockers, turn off non-essential notifications, and set your phone to “Do Not Disturb” to stay focused on the task at hand.
Doing power hours without phones is incredibly effective, but over the course of the month, we’ve also realized that the same applies not just during work hours but especially during downtime.
Digital Detox Sundays have been a thing at the Château for a few months now, and we’ve definitely noticed the positive impact of a day without screens on our productivity and focus in the week that follows.
7. Take advantage of the change in scenery
If you’re feeling stuck, a change of environment can work wonders. Take your laptop to a different room, work outdoors, or use a standing desk for variety.
At the Château, there are countless nooks, corners, sofas, and other spaces to choose from. Changing your view provides fresh perspectives, both in your work and in life.

8. Incorporate mindfulness & movement

A few minutes of meditation, deep breathing, or stretching can reset your mind and improve concentration. A short walk around the Château grounds can be a powerful break that sparks creativity and inspiration.
Even something as simple as closing your eyes, taking a few deep breaths, and stretching while switching from one task to another is a great way to reset.
We start every workday with a 10-minute “surprise” movement session led by our holistic coach, Anastasia. Depending on the mood, weather, or energy in the group, it might be a short meditation, stretch, breathwork exercise, or a quick but sweet workout. It’s a wonderful way to wake up both the body and the mind to kickstart the day.
Of course, colivers also follow their regular workout routines in the gym, and more and more people are falling in love with our signature running sessions, followed by a cold dip in the ocean. It’s a magic combo that makes us feel invincible and ready to handle whatever the day throws at us.
9. Optimize Your Evening Routine
Reading a book by the fireplace, playing board games, or having a fun chat with fellow colivers are great ways to clear your mind from work and help reset.
Set yourself up for success by winding down properly. Limit screen time before bed, review your goals, and get enough rest to start fresh the next day.
When we asked our community to contribute their top tips for this article, one person said, “Avoid tequila at all costs.” It’s funny because it’s true, and we may or may not have learned that the hard way 😉. Jokes aside, limiting alcohol consumption is great for improving sleep quality and maintaining a clear head.
We’re all for rewarding ourselves after a productive day, but this reward doesn’t have to be alcohol.
10. Embrace the community for inspiration
Engage with your fellow colivers for new ideas, collaboration, and encouragement. Group coworking sessions, mastermind discussions, or shared goal-setting will definitely enhance motivation—we promise!
We talk about our work a lot during Focus February, which is great and helpful, but we also have evening discussions on other important (and semi-related) topics like setting boundaries, avoiding burnout, managing neurodivergence, creating space to dream, building healthy relationships, and more.
We strongly believe that by implementing these strategies, you can make the most of your coliving experience while staying productive and focused.
Focus February at Chateau Coliving is all about finding that perfect balance—deep work, meaningful connections, and an inspiring environment to thrive in.
It already had such an impact on both participants and the team that we’re thinking of doing it again:
