How community helps you build better habits (and why it matters)

We often hear that it takes 28 days to form a habit. But the reality is more complex: depending on what the habit is, how big it is, and what your environment is, “habit formation” can take weeks, months, or even longer.

Still, there is one thing that is essential, and that’s having a supportive environment. People around you who share your intentions dramatically increase your chances of sticking with new behaviors.

That’s why at Chateau Coliving, our upcoming themed months are built around more than just a topic. They’re designed to help you build habits from the inside out, surrounded by a community living the same goals.

Why community matters in habit building

  • Accountability & shared goals

When you know others are watching, cheering you on, or checking in, that pushes you to follow through. Actually, research suggests committing to someone else can dramatically raise your chances of success.

  • Behavior reinforcement & cueing

Habits form through what’s called the habit loop: cue → routine → reward. In a community, social cues (think morning walks, shared work sprints, or after-dinner rituals) become part of that loop and help the new habit stick.

  • Motivation in low moments

There will be days when you’re tired, uninspired, or stuck. Being in a group where others are pushing through helps you push through, too.

  • Micro-behaviors compound

A small action today, repeated daily, becomes your identity over time. For example, if you dedicate 10 minutes a day to reading or language practice, it can snowball into fluency or deep reading habits.

Why personal growth matters, especially for remote workers and nomads.

Living on the move gives you freedom, but it also demands intention. Without structure or familiar routines, it’s easy to drift (we have all been there!): work more than you rest, scroll more than you connect, or lose track of personal goals between flights and new faces.

That’s why continuous growth and self-awareness are so important for people who live this lifestyle. The best part of being a digital nomad or remote professional isn’t just where you work, it’s who you become because of it.

Every new place challenges your comfort zone. Every community reflects back parts of yourself you might not notice otherwise. And when you surround yourself with people who are also curious, growth-oriented, and committed to becoming better, you don’t just evolve faster, you evolve together.

At its heart, personal growth is not about constant improvement. It’s about alignment, about learning to live in a way that matches your values, energy, and purpose. And that’s exactly what community makes possible: a safe space to experiment, fail, reflect, or try again.

What we’ll focus on in our themed months

Here’s a peek at some of the upcoming themes and how they’re designed to help you build positive habits, with community support:

Cultivate a healthier relationship with screens. Set boundaries, commit to change and practice small rituals in community; explore activities that don’t involve screens such as interactive games that our team has prepared especially for this month and even immersive experience that helps you reconnect with your dreams. There’s so much more to life than doom scrolling…

Build sustainable work rhythms and achieve your goals without the toxic productivity we have been conditioned to, which often leads to burnout. Daily sprints, focused work bonuses, shared accountability, and a supportive group of colivers with various backgrounds with whom you can discuss your goals and projects while learning from each other.

Integrate language learning into your daily life. Living with a teacher who is living the same lifestyle and won’t bombard you with complex grammar, having native-speaking hosts and colivers who have a similar level of French and are willing to improve – being in France and challenging yourself to talk to the locals –  5 minutes here, a word exchange there, and constant exposure with colivers soon to be friends doing the same. What better way to skyrocket your French language skills!

Because we know it’s easier to build together.

Tips you can start now (even before joining)

  • Stack a new habit onto an existing one. If you always have morning coffee, add 5 minutes of journaling right after.
  • Use very small steps. Don’t overhaul your life; start with changes that feel easy to repeat.
  • Track progress publicly in your circle or group. Even a “did I or didn’t I” daily check-in helps.
  • Be patient. Habits aren’t linear. Days will be harder than others. Change is messy.

If you’ve been wanting to actually take a step, not just think about it, then these themed months might be exactly the structure and community you need.

Have a look at the full calendar, and if you’re curious, why not give it a go?

Let’s build habits, not just intentions. It’s time to grow together!
