A DAY TRIP IN NORMANDIE

OUR SUMMER ESCAPE

The Normandy region is filled with wonderful places, charming cities, and breathtaking landscapes. And the good news is that this part of France is not yet suffering from mass tourism!
After a week working at the castle, we love to take our colivers to (re) discover the region’s rich history.

Today let’s take a look at our favorite spots between cities and seaside towns.

BARNEVILLE CARTERET, OUR SUMMER HEADQUARTERS

Only 30 min by car from the castle, this little paradise on earth is visited by most of our colivers at one time or another during the summer.
Barneville-Carteret is a small seaside resort with a lot to offer: impressive tides of a turquoise sea, many spots serving delicious food, and beautiful walks with views.

Here is how we spend a day there:

Around 10h am, we leave the Chateau, taking time to stop for croissants, pains au chocolat, or the region’s special: Chausson aux pommes (apple pastry) at a local bakery.
Time to park the car and start the adventure along the path between the cliff and the sea. A walk that can go on for hours with breathtaking views of Jersey and Guernsey islands.

Around midday we stop at Terminus, an old train station turned into a food corner where we can try oysters, pizzas, crepes, galettes, cheese plates, Asian specialties, or vegetarian food from one of the many food trucks. Our personal favorite spot is the foosball and boule area which bring a great atmosphere to the place.

After a good walk and good food, we reach the Potiniere beach, close to the center with its lovely wooden shacks, hard to find a more authentic place. From June to September, the water is clear and warm enough to take a swim, even for the most sensitive of us!

Towards the end of the afternoon, we make our way to the terrasse of the bar-restaurant of the beach for a typical French Apero where we drink a glass and have a few olives and snacks in the sand.

When it is time for the sun to set (we get to admire it from our spot!) we can decide to stay on the beach or take the car towards Port-Bail and stop on our way home to eat the best moules frites (mussels and fries, a very traditional dish) of the area at Bac a Sable.
